StRa can also import STL ASCII files created by other tools. The deformed tube on the image below was inserted as a STL file.

ImageMan4 can import STL ASCII files. You can use any STL file in text format, created by other tools, like CAD/CAM or mesh editors. However, the ImageMan4 package comes with a simple program that helps you to create arbitrary 3D shapes and store them in STL format. This is the Mesh++ program. Mesh++ is free for ImageMan4 users.
Mesh++ is a simple 3D graphics tool. It permits to create complex arbitrary shapes out of an initial shape like a sphere, ellipsoid, box etc. After creating an initial shape you can deform it like a sculptor. Pushing or pulling out sets of points permits you to create fantastic shapes. Then you can define color, scale, light position, cut the shape or merge it with other shapes prepared and stored earlier. For example, the below duck image is a single shape pulled out of an initial ellipsoid (only the eyes have been inserted as other shapes).
The package includes some predefined textures. The user can add his/her own textures as a simple bitmaps. Each object can have its texture, which can be rotated and resized.

Lighting: You can control the lighting parameters like the position of the light source, and the object surface properties. This includes the emissivity, shininess and specularity. See the image below.
To install demo download the package using this demo link. Then, create a new directory on your hard disc and extract the files to the directory. To start, just execute stra.exe.
